Nature of Logic and Perception
To be able to discuss what nature of logic and perception are, first we need to understand what they are. Logic is defined as the scientific study of the principles of reasoning. Perception by definition is the act, process, or result of perceiving. (Webster's II, 1998) In this essay, I am going to discuss how logic, perceptual process, and critical thinking are related and corresponded with each other.
The nature of logic as I understand it is the ability to distinguish good arguments from poor ones, and to rationalize those arguments with the truth through good reasoning. Critical thinking as I understand can guide me to make reasonable and intelligent decisions. It enables me to ask questions, to solve problems, think creatively, and communicate my ideas across clearly and effectively. Furthermore, critical thinking helps me to gain knowledge, and explore new ideas. In my opinion, logic closely relates to critical thinking because using good reasoning will enable me to make intelligent decisions and solve problems.
My perceptual process primarily influence by the environment that surround me, what I was taught to believe and the thing that I experienced. Based on all these things, my perception of the world is a stressful, loud, complicate, confuse, wonderful, beautiful, kind and glories place.
The type of perceptual block that influence my views is "stereotyping". I sometimes find myself stereotyping other people without realizing it. For example, when I see someone in a car driving too slowly in front of me, I automatically assume the driver is Asian. I think I acted that way because I was stereotyped. This preconceive notion instill in my mind that it is acceptable for me to stereotype others. I know is wrong, but is the human nature in me that I sometimes unable to avoid from happening.
