Nashi
Nashi is a youth group created by Vasily Yakemenko on March 1, 2005 to support Russia’s president Vladimir Putin . This group is sponsored by the Kremilin and includes more than 600,000 members. The translation of Nashi is “ours” and what is said is this group is to “fight for the minds of Russia’s young people”. Nashi was set up mainly as a response to Ukraine’s Orange revolution in 2004, where youth led protests that helped the pro-western candidate win the presidency. Kremlin, the creator of this group, has said the group was set up as a movement to demonstrate against what he interpreted as and increasing come back of communism in Russia. Nashi has an eighty page manifesto based on the writings of Vladislav Y. Surkov. It is anti-western and reveals and shows that the main purpose of the group is to suppress pro-democracy demonstrations. Nashi speaks approvingly of Karl Marx’s “communist manifesto because Marx was willing to give up everything for his ideals. Nashi manifesto puts repeated emphasis on competition and the goal to make Russia a world leader. Nashi’s manifesto has dark predictions if Russia looses in competition to the U.S. Nashi gives Russia credit for defeating Hitler, the eight hour work day, free public education and other social and political changes that are not normally attributed to Russia.
The Nashi organization also has views on social issues. They are against drinking, smoking, and other forms of drugs. Also, they have a conservative view on abortions, birthcontroll, and the use of condoms. Even though the Nashi is trying to promote ethnic diversity in Russia, they still have strong hostility towards America and Europe.
