My Favourite Literary Character
My Favourite Literary Character My favourite literary character is Sara Louise from Jacob Have I Loved, by Katherine Paterson. Sara Louise, mostly called “Wheeze” throughout the book, has a very interesting personality. She is selfless, but will not openly show it, she is foolish, but is witty, and she is hard-working, but still humble. Her complex qualities make her my favourite literary character. Wheeze has always been compared to her seemingly perfect and angelic twin sister, Caroline. Ever since their births, it was Caroline who always held everyone’s attention because it was Caroline who had nearly died, while Wheeze was forgotten. Being able to overcome the lack of attention that she was forced to live with is something that couldn’t have come easily. Wheeze would also never complain, even when things were unfair for her. She had only one friend during childhood, a chubby, dirty boy named Call Purnell. When Wheeze grew older, she fell in love with him. But, not knowing this, he proposed to Caroline the same night, who then accepted. Also, Caroline had gone to a fancy boarding voice school that was paid for by an aging captain, a man Wheeze and Call had helped all the time when they were younger. Additionally, Wheeze is shown to be very confused. After Caroline had gone away, Wheezed didn’t go to high school. She was homeschooled by her mother and the Captain, and she spent her free time fishing with her father, a task meant for boys solely, to help with the family income. Wheeze only was home-schooled later in her teens, though, because she had refused to go at first, wanting to hide how hurt she felt that Caroline got everything she wanted while she got nothing. All these unfair things that Wheeze had to face and overcome show her into honest personality and her wholesome character, making her my favourite literary character. At the end of this novel, things don’t end up bad for her. Because of Wheeze’s determination, she managed to become a doctor

Whit’s powers grant him the gift of clairvoyance. Whatever poem he writes or whichever one pops into his notebook, always manages to help him and his sister. Whit’s powers also go beyond that, as he whips up an entire holiday meal for a family who took them in and helped them out. Whit is also dealing with a constant internal struggle after realizing that the one killed his beloved girlfriend Celia. The first part is Jack in society as a whole. Here, this blood thirsty savage is a symbol of all that is chaotic and disorderly. The tall, scrawny, “ugly without silliness” boy is constantly trying to break away from Ralph, who is orderly, and his rules. For example, Jack always breaks the rule of speaking while holding the conch. He interrupts almost everyone, especially Piggy, when they are speaking. The fact that Jack frequently picks on Piggy is a symbol of how brawn and brutality will often overwhelm intellect (Piggy represents the intellectual part of society). Jack even goes as far as to break Piggy’s glasses, another symbol of order and society, which shows how he is going to later destruct and eventually destroy every last part of normal society that remains on the island.…

I choose Babe as the character that I would make a “through-line.” She has one of the more detailed and complex background stories. They are complex, because it is not extremely evident why they are significant. However, once one deeply analyzes her character, it becomes evident why these stories about her are so important in trying to understand Babe.…

The excepted social theory of civilization’s social process was made by the scientists Adam Smith, John Millar, Adam Ferguson, and lastly Lord Kames. This social theory was that there were many levels of civility in a society. These levels were hunting, pasturage, agriculture, and commerce. One example of the first level which is hunting is the the Native Americans. The excepted social process is that a country was to go through all of these levels by starting out on hunting and eventually the society would mature and work its way up to the point of being a commercially based society. Now this process helped shaped the colonies culture of “civility” because the colonists were never hunters. When the colonists got to the North America they already knew that their society was going to stem from agriculture. That is what happened in the southern colonies. These colonies produced tobacco, indigo, and rice. Then after a large period of agricultural growth in the southern colonies the northern colonies started to produce raw materials to trade back to England. Then after that they started producing finished products but this did not go along with Britain’s mercantilistic policies. Either way the colonies culture was to trade goods and raw materials commercially. This is what makes the colonies so unique. This is because for most countries this process of climbing the metaphorical latter of social civility would have taken so much longer. That is how the social theory of civilization’s social process was made and how it came to shape the cultural civility in the American colonies.…
