My Favorite Teacher
The Best Teacher I’ve Ever Had

Teachers are a big part of a student’s life growing up. And no matter who you talk to, they will have their favorites and their least favorites. My two favorites were my art teacher and my Spanish teacher. And my least favorites were my Chemistry/Physics teacher and my English teacher. I base my favorites more on their personalities, and then their teaching methods.

One of my favorite teachers in high school was my art teacher, Mrs. Humke. She was not only a really good teacher; she was a good person too. Also, she taught the classes I was most interested in. I’m more of a visual learner and that is how she taught everything, obviously. I think my relationship with her was unique. I would hang out there during my lunch period, and helped her a lot on our yearbook or whatever else she needed. I had more than just a teacher-‐student relationship with her, which I think was a lot of the reason I even mentioned her in my Salutatorian speech at graduation. I liked her over a lot of my other teachers. And she was and still is a role model and a mentor to me. Mr. Wunnicke was my Spanish teacher since seventh grade, and I had him all the way through my senior year. I was always very interested in Spanish and continuing my study with it. He knew I was one of the ones who were actually paying attention and learning and not copying others. Teachers aren’t technically supposed to have “favorites,” but everyone knew I was his. Most kids in my school did not like him because he was kind of crazy, and super unorganized. However, I

found his classes super interesting because he was always switching things up and making sure we were having fun too. He was one of those teachers I could tease with and we had our own rules than the typical student-‐teacher relationship. I think that’s what made him unique to the other teachers; I could be myself without having to worry about saying the wrong thing. He was quirky and different, but that’s what made him one of my favorite teachers.

In high school, I never had any problems with any of my classes usually,

except when it came to Chemistry and Physics. And it wasn’t that the material was really that hard, it was the teacher. Mr.Campbell was a really smart guy who I could assume never really had a hard time grasping any of the concepts. His teaching method caused troubles for a lot of students, including myself. I hated asking questions because every time I did, he would explain it the same way to me again and I still wouldn’t understand.

Mrs. Stanek was my English teacher three out of the four years in high school,

and two years in middle school. To put it nicely, our personalities just did not go well together. I am not really sure why we did not get along, but we didn’t. Her teaching method was just fine, and I always got good grades in her classes. It was just her personality that puts her as one of my least favorite teachers.

Teachers that taught subjects I enjoyed seem to come to the beginning of the

list. Maybe it is because we had similar interests and got along better, or maybe I ended up liking the subject more because of the teacher. Either way. These teachers, good or bad; have shaped me into who I am and now I know what kind of teacher I would like to be in the future.

When tenth grade started, I was unaware of what to expect. My first period class was English. I had heard many stories about Mrs. Trahan, the dreadful English teacher. I was a little nervous about going to her class. I remember trying to find out if anyone had that class with me, so I did not have to go in alone. Thank God I had Desiree! When the bell rang and I went to Mrs. Trahan’s class, all was well. Then I saw Mrs. Trahan. Could this be the teacher everyone hates? She seemed incredibly nice. It seemed like people had exaggerated a little when describing her, because as I found throughout the year, she was the best thing academically to happen to me.…

By far, one of the best teachers I have ever had in all of my years of school, has been my eighth grade English teacher, Mrs. Dunlap. Before I had her class, I enjoyed English, and I enjoyed reading, but I still had struggles with it, and I was not that passionate about it. All of that changed, however, when Mrs. Dunlap was my English teacher. She was someone who truly cared about the subject that they taught- She was invested in every single piece of literature that she taught us, she explained grammar in a way that made it fun (For me, at least), and she was attentive to the learning needs of each and every student.…
