My Decision to Pursue the MBA Program
I attended Bowling Green State University and graduated in 1977. My major in college was Public Relations, but to be honest I only went to college because it was expected of me. At that time, I had no idea what I wanted out of life. I just floated through life left Dayton, Ohio, moved to Houston, married, and gave birth to two beautiful children. Now 30 years later, my youngest child has graduated from high school. My oldest child is in her third year of college. My husband and I have different opinions about finances and other matters and therefore have decided to divorce. The time has come for me to focus on me and my future.
I have worked at some wonderful companies. I have resigned from one company and was laid off from another. I was then employed with another company and after 5 years my position was outsourced to another company who outsourced me to another company. It was then that I decided to start my own home-based business.
The business began with most of the sales taking place during the Christmas holiday. In the past that was fine because I was working full time, being a parent, wife and involved with church activities. One year ago, I received a settlement from a law suit which stipulates money is to be used for educational purposes only. This was an opportunity to get the business skills needed to make my business marketable and profitable. At first I looked for certified business classes. In the fall of 2006 I talked to a University of Phoenix, (UP) representative. After our conversation, I realized it would be more beneficial to get a master's degree as oppose to certification.
