The History and Production of the Ford Mustang


Ford wanted to come out with a sports car that would be faster, more sleek and all around better than the other companies. In 1964 Ford Motor Company developed the Ford Mustang. This car would make every other Automotive company want what they had.
Carroll Shelby had great influence on the production of the Mustang. Carroll broke the land speed record in 1954 at Bonneville. Carroll won a 24-hour race at Le Mans with one of his good friends and teammates Roy Salavadori.( Carroll Shelby History) Carroll Shelby developed the Shelby Cobra. This was one of the fastest production cars ever made. The Shelby Cobra came in a aluminum body, with an l 289 cubic inch V-8 or an optional 427 cubic inch V-8 boasting a massive 530 horsepower. (Carroll Shelby History) In 1992 Carroll Shelby was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame( Carroll Shelby History).
The first Mustang was put into production in 1964. It was brought to a dealership on March 9th 1964. It was bought by a man named Captain Stanley Tucker. The dealership was
directed not to sell this mustang for a couple of weeks for unknown reasons. Captain Stanley Tucker came to the unveiling and offered the selling price to buy this car. The dealership sold the car to him, even though instructed not to. Two years or so later Ford realized that they wanted the first Mustang back so they offered to trade Tucker for a 1966 model built exactly to his liking. The first mustang was returned to Ford in Dearborn Michigan. It was later donated in 1966 to the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn.(The First Mustang)
