Music Is My New Girlfriend
I met someone about 6 years ago, and since we’ve been together I’m a new person. There are so many things I like about this person, from the way she talks to the way she captures the attention of people from the moment she enters a room. She’s so inspiring at times and carries so much personality. She makes me smile, laugh, and cry. I feel committed to her and so glad that I started this relationship. I love her, or should I say “it”. Music is my new girlfriend.
Much like a girlfriend you can always remember the first time you met. Now in many cases you have either seen the person before or her of them or had some knowledge of existence. Music of course was all around me since the time I was born. From the number one hit singles play on the radio to the bees and butterflies hanging over you on a baby mobile, but the day we actually met was probably the best day of my life. The first time I actually made an attempt to a write a song of my own was when I was 12 years old. It was the coolest thing ever to me, because it was mine and I was proud of it. Now I cant take full credit for it because it had a bit of plagiarism in it, but it was my first so I figured it was ok. I used one of the first hip-hop songs created as a template. I used Sugar Hill Gang’s “Rappers Delight”. I replaced my name with theirs and rearranged some words and made it my own, it was golden. I rapped the song at school to my friends and at home to family. I showed it off just like I would my girlfriend.
When you find a person, who you think you might be interested in you non-consciously find things that you like and dislike about them. Maybe you like their personality or appearance or the way they carry themselves. Whatever it may be, you find it. In music I found specific artist who I gravitated to, such as Jay-Z and Nas. I located specific genres of music that appealed to me as well. My favorite was rap of course, but R&B and Rock weren’t too far behind. I’m...
