I never thought it was going to happen to me, until it was happening…

…Whilst stopped at a red traffic light in Sandton, Johannesburg the car in front of me who just so happened to be my friend, Shane that I was following got pulled over by the police. As I was following him I decided to stop as well, to my surprise a police officer came to my car and asked me a couple of questions.

Police officer: “Good evening”.
Me: “Good evening Sir”.
P.O.: “Where were you this evening?”
Me: “I was out with a couple of friends at Montecasino.”
P.O.: “Have you had anything to drink?”
Me: “I have had three drinks the entire evening and my last drink was over four hours ago officer.”
P.O.: “I do not believe you.”
Me: “Well I am telling you the truth officer you can even give me a breathalyzer test.”
P.O.: ‘We do not do breathalyzer tests only metro police perform these. You are going to have to accompany me to the police station so that we can test your blood.”
Me: “Is that the only way for you to check whether I am under the influence of alcohol?”
P.O: “Yes, do you understand?”
Me: “Umm – ya I suppose”

The police officer that spoke to me was nametag less and left me feeling rather interrogated and frightened, I didn’t want to be rude or cheeky but I had to ask him one question…

Me: “Excuse me, Sir, if you honestly thought that I was under the influence of alcohol would you endanger your life by getting in my car and accompanying me to the police station?”
P.O.: “Umm – err – ah”
Me: “And risk your life seriously?”
P.O.: “No I am not allowed to drive your vehicle if something had to happen the state would not pay.”

So off we went to Bramley police station this was such a shock to me, and I started to smell a rat there was something fishy going on.

P.O.: “Turn left here”
Me: “No Sir this is not a police station! I am not turning in here!”
