MOTION GRAPHIC

Motion

graphics are graphics that use video footage and animation technology to create the illusion of motion or a transforming appearance. These motion graphics are usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects. Motion graphics are usually displayed via electronic media technology, but may be displayed via manual powered technology (e.g. thaumatrope, phenakistoscope, stroboscope, zoetrope, praxinoscope, flip book) as well. The term is useful for distinguishing still graphics from graphics with a transforming appearance over time without over-specifying the form.

HISTORY

Since there is no universally accepted definition of motion graphics, the official beginning of the art form is disputed. There have been presentations that could be classified as motion graphics as early as the 1800s. Perhaps one of the first uses of the term "motion graphics" was by animator John Whitney, who in 1960 founded a company called Motion Graphics Inc. Saul Bass is probably the most significant pioneer in motion graphic design, and his work marks the true beginning of what is now commonly referred to as motion graphics. His work included title sequences for popular films such as The Man With The Golden Arm (1955), Vertigo (1958), Anatomy of a Murder (1959), North by Northwest (1959), Psycho (1960), and Advise & Consent (1962). His designs were simple, but effectively communicated the mood of the film.

Human beings are in constant search for sources that can provide them with adequate resources to meet their basic needs. The desire to get an adequate supply of resources has made people move from one location to another. However, people’s needs are complex and differ. This observation makes it difficult to have a specific factor to attribute human movement from one area to another. Bailyn asserts that the human world can best be described as the world in motion. In this type of world, its inhabitants are always on the move with the purpose of satisfying their desires. Bailyn's arguments on the cause of this motion particularly in the early days before…

Stop motion animation has a long history in film. It was often used to show objects moving as if by magic. The first instance of the stop motion technique can be credited to Albert E. Smith and J. Stuart Blackton for The Humpty Dumpty Circus (1897), in which a toy circus of acrobats and animals comes to life. In 1902, the film Fun in a Bakery Shop used the stop-trick technique in the "lightning sculpting" sequence. French trick film maestro Georges Méliès used true stop-motion to produce moving title-card letters for one of his short films, but never exploited the process for any of his other films[dubious – discuss]. The Haunted Hotel (1907) is another stop motion film by J. Stuart Blackton, and was a resounding success when released. Segundo de Chomón (1871–1929), from Spain, released El Hotel Eléctrico later that same year, and used similar techniques as the Blackton film. In 1908, A Sculptor's Welsh Rarebit Nightmare was released, as was The Sculptor's Nightmare, a film by Billy Bitzer. Italian animator Roméo Bossetti impressed audiences with his object animation tour-de-force, The Automatic Moving Company in 1912. The great European stop motion pioneer was Wladyslaw Starewicz (1892–1965), who animated The Beautiful Lukanida (1910), The Battle of the Stag Beetles (1910), The Ant and the Grasshopper (1911).…

Computer animators work to bring objects to life through the use of computer graphics. Like traditional animators, computer animators manipulate graphics and images to simulate movement. However, unlike traditional animators, computer animators use digital technology to create new visual effects and motions that help avoid the monotonous, frame-by-frame drawing required for each picture. Computer animation is a very lucrative business and shows no sign of slowing down in the future.…

For the purpose of this essay I contend that a moving image is one that is viewed upon a screen. This may include images such as photography, video or animation, which can be used to create films (long, short or continuous) or computer games. Methods of telling stories, which do not use moving images, consist of watching plays in the theatre, reading books or listening to oral/ accounts. Filmmaking is the most common way of telling a story through moving image and is a language through which meaning; ideas and messages can be communicated.…

What is motion picture film? The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) describes it as “a thick flexible strip of plastic, complying with a dimensional standard as defined within, whose use is specific to the process of manufacturing a motion picture.” That definition leads to about a dozen pages of further definitions about various aspects of motion picture film. For our purposes, let’s take a look at how film is made, and how an image is formed on that film.…

When I think of art I think of great artists of the past. Artists that have spent practically all their lives to produce visually stunning pieces of work. Artists such as Michelangelo, who spent 15 years of his life to finalize a painting on the ceiling of the St. Peter's Cathedral. When I think of art, I think of the legendary sculptures of the classical era. Artists then envisioned a final work from a block of stone. However, It is very difficult for me to consider a person who sits in front of a computer and plays with a pre-programmed software as an artist. As narrow as that statement may sound, In my opinion, it seems true and to the point.…
