MIGRATION PROCESSES:

What has stimulated migration? why have people been prepared, in some cases, to give up entire Way of life job , family, friends, cultural traditions to venture into a new and often essentially unknown environment? -
The most fundamental reason for migration is a belief that the move will result in some advantage that the person or family does not presently enjoy. Often, this perceived advantage is monetary the prospect of job rather than unemployment or of a better job. Some people migrate for social or political reasons to avoid persecution or reprisal when major change occur within the home nation. Migrations out of Hungry (195O’s) Cuba, Vietnam and Afghanistan were partially of this type

Other migrate primarily out of a sense of adventure, a motivation to see the world.

Frequently, reasons for migration are mixed and many migrants combine economic objectives with hopes for a beneficial change in lifestyle.
The sense of adventure. may be present whether the migrant wants it or not and
“adventure” will often become surprise, shock, or fear
A useful approach to understanding migration is to think in terms of push and pull factors
Push factors for example, unemployment famine political factors make people dissatisfied with their home area ,Pull factors help migrants decide exactly where they will go. Which of the possible destinations is most attractive? Casts of relocation (i-e distance). whether or not family or friends are already there. Job opportunities, government policies with respect to immigration and numerous other factors are all relevant. That there are emotional as ‘ well as economic and other considerations often makes it difficult for migrants to make choices. Indeed, many refrain from migrating because the prospect of leaving family and friends and the comfort of a familiar culture or location is not sufficient ‘ compensated for by prospect of economic or other gains
