He has the mind of a child but is very large and does not know his own strength. After Lennie’s Aunt Clara died, their family friend, George Milton took Lennie under his wing. Now, George and Lennie are traveling looking for work. George and Lennie were chased out of the town of Weed because Lennie saw a girl in a silk dress and started to touch her. Well, with his mental disability and his lack of reasoning, he did not understand that he could not go up to a girl and touch her. As a result, the woman went to the police and claimed Lennie had raped her. So, George and Lennie had to leave town. Lennie and George are saving their money to buy their own land. George keeps telling Lennie what they are going to have on their land but Lennie can’t seem to remember. In the end, Carlson shoots Candy’s dog in the back of the head to put her out of her misery. Candy felt guilty because he thought that he should have done it. Candy is also promised a place with Lennie and George, due to the fact that he has money and can help make their dream come true.

2b. Crooks is another very important minor character. He’s the only African American worker on the ranch. He got his nickname from his crooked back, from when he was kicked by a horse. He is separated from the other men. While the other men sleep in the bunks, Crooks sleeps in the barn. Lennie visits Crooks in his room and Lennie tells him about his, George, and Candy’s plan to get their own place....
