PROJECT TITLE: To Produce the opening of a thriller film, including titles, about 2 minutes long, with a 15 certificate

Brief and Research
The aim of our thriller opening was to create an opening which did not give too much information away, but contained enough information to keep the audience’s attention. The resources that were available to us were Canon XM-1 and XM-2 mini DV camcorders, tripod, Lights mini DV tapes.

The thriller is a broad genre of literature, film, and television. It includes numerous, often overlapping sub-genres. Characteristics of thrillers include fast pacing, frequent action, and quick-witted heroes who must thwart the plans of more-powerful and better-equipped villains. Literary devices such as suspense and cliff-hangers are used extensively.

There are many Sub-genres of thrillers, they include: Action thrillers, Conspiracy thrillers, Crime thrillers, Drama thriller, Horror thriller, Psychological thriller and Supernatural thriller. The sub-genre that really intrigued me was the horror-thriller, so I decided to do so some further research into this genre. Horror thrillers are thrillers in which conflict between the main characters are mental, emotional, and physical. Examples of Horror thrillers are Silence of the Lambs and the Saw movies.

The main-title sequence or the opening credits of a movie can be considered the most important piece in a film. Other than trailers and marketing elements, they are the first images the audience sees when the lights go down. These quick clips (all about two to three minutes) outline the filmmaker's intentions and set up the expectations of those watching.
