Running head: PERSONAL STATEMENT TO PURSUE AN MBA

Personal Statement to Pursue an MBA My personal statement begins with my American journey. A journey of faith and courage in the face of adversity that has taken me to where I am today. And it remains still a work in progress. And an MBA will surely help accelerate that.

I was sixteen years old when my family left the Philippines, my birthplace and migrated to the United States to pursue the American dream that many in the world aspire for. Like all beginnings, I struggled with my first few steps and had mixed feelings about my new home. I was excited over the great promise of an American dream. But I felt unsure if I could adapt to a new culture and be truly accepted by new friends I made. Driven by a consuming desire to succeed, I cast these doubts aside, opened my mind, and embraced the new challenges.

I entered Glendora High School as a junior. I learned English in the Philippines at the age of five, but did not feel confident enough to communicate orally because while I could speak the language I sounded different. To overcome the language and cultural challenges, I participated in sports, varsity swimming among them. I would wake up every morning in the break of dawn during winter for my swimming practices. Enduring the bone chilling weather provided the strength to build my character. I enrolled in swimming camps during the off-season, which helped me to transition to the Varsity team during my senior year, and won the “Most Improved Swimmer” award. My swimming experience helped me to become goal driven, strengthen my competitive spirit, develop a healthy lifestyle, improve my social skills, and become self-confident. After graduation, I went to Cal Poly Pomona for my bachelor’s degree in marketing management.

My professional career started during my junior year in college. I carried a full workload of sixteen units based on a quarter system, while working two

For the past three years I have worked as a coach for the youth basketball organization, the Next Year's Stars. We are composed of twelve basketball teams, spread out amongst four coaches, with myself being the youngest and second most tenured coach. There are practices running at least once a day, with games scheduled all Saturdays and Sundays. I only run practices twice a week and coach two to three games per weekend. Though I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity I have to instill the fundamentals of the game I love, I realize that I could be more active within the organization by taking a heavier workload. By continuing to engage, serve, and coordinate team practices and games within the Next Year’s Stars, I will learn the true meaning of leadership.…

I wasn’t terribly sure what I wanted to do with my life, nor did I have any idea how to get where I thought I wanted to be. My relative lack of passion wasn’t seen as a deterrent in my affluent Texas town, though, as it was a place where nearly all high school students went on to college—it was the only option we really considered or that was presented to us by our families, teachers, and counselors as a post-graduation plan. So I began the requisite search by looking first at nontraditional college environments, for while I had done reasonably well at my large and impersonal public high school, nor had I flourished either. It seemed to me that if I was going to spend the next four years of my life in school, I might as well try a different tactic than the one that had allowed me to coast rather unremarkably through high school.…

My pursuit of physical therapy as a profession comes from my interest in healing the human body. Originally inspired by my grandfather, it has been my profession of choice for as long as i can remember; From a young child observing my grandfather unable to be mobile without the use of a cane, to my teenage years when I learned about the dynamics of the human body, to even more recently, after the excision of an osteochondroma on my femur during my time spent in the care of a physical therapist. <---RUN ON SENTENCE, ADJUST IT These humbling experiences have helped solidify my passion for physical therapy.…

Many people around the world want to build a career in Optics and Photonics and I am just one of them but I am different from others because of my eternal enthusiasm to study in this area. I started to dream about photonics and optical systems when I was at secondary school. In high school I started drawing optical systems. This made me more and more eager to study about optics and photonics. Step by step I was starting to make the little boy’s dream come true. After high school I decided to study Material Science or Physics to become more familiar with optic and photonic components. I started studying Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering at Sakarya University Engineering Faculty at 2004. At university, I was selected student of honors for 4 times. I was a quite active student here and I became the chairman of the Material Science and Engineering Club. More important is that I started to improve my skills about photonics. That’s why, TUBITAK ( Turkish National Scientific and Technical Research Center) Materials Institute was very good place for me, so I started to do my training there in Electron Microscopy and XRD-Spectroscopy Laboratories. In TUBITAK I focused on spectroscopy techniques, photonics systems, photonic detection and characterization. Compulsory official training time was 1 month but I extended the time to 5 months for my self. My training result was (AA – in German System 1.0) excellent. Furthermore as a compulsory engineering design project I worked on Silicon-GermaniumNitrogen nanocables.…

Statement of Purpose My name is Carlos Nieva. I received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Telecommunications in the fall of 1998 from ITESM (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey), Mexico. I received the degree of Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in the fall of 2002 from NMSU (New Mexico State University). My advisor and co-advisor during my Master’s degree studies were Dr. Jaime Ramírez-Angulo and Dr. Paul Furth, respectively. The topic of my Master’s degree thesis is “Low-voltage, class AB and high slew rate two-stage operational amplifiers”. The curricular focus of my bachelor degree is in electronics and communications. During my undergraduate studies I took several courses covering topics in electronic design, analog and digital communications and microwave devices such as transmission lines and antennas. The curricular focus of my Master’s degree was strongly based in analog circuit design using CMOS technology. My circuit designs were implemented with a point fivemicrometer CMOS technology. My thesis proposes a new op-amp architecture that operates at very low voltages and offer higher speed performance compared to classical op-amp architectures. The thesis project includes the circuit design, spice simulations, the chip layout design and the chip testing at the laboratory. The chip layout design was sent to the MOSIS service for fabrication. During my Master’s degree I took courses in CMOS analog, digital, RF and mixed signal design. Other complementary courses taken for the completion of the degree were in the areas of microwave engineering, DSP and communication systems. The areas of research that I am interested in are classified into one of the following categories. One area of interest is the circuit implementation of data wireless communication systems and DSP systems. The second area of interest is the development of circuits for RF and high-speed mixed signal applications. Some examples for this…

“The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams.”I firmly believe in this quote made by Eleanor Roosevelt. I have always dreamed of making it to the top in the field of business in general and that of finance in particular. However, to realize my dream I need to understand and appreciate the fact that I must arm myself with a professional degree from a reputed business school. This would be an important and decisive step in my journey towards success. A full-fledged program in finance would enable me to form a vision of business and of finance in the twenty-first century and the way it is going. The only career option in today’s competitive environment which creates an opportunity for an aspirant to pursue a career in the field of his choice is to acquire a management degree. Management qualification is a tool to build skills, gain knowledge and insight into modern business techniques…

My father is an engineer with the Rajasthan State Electricity Board. With three elder sisters and coming from a conventional business and trader’s family he bucked the trend to pursue engineering and then a government job. Since he had not followed the tradition, as a child I was never required to follow it. I had exposure to all sorts of options but decided to take up the baton from my father as I had a natural inclination for Mathematics and Science which led to my solid performance both in the 10th and 12th standard public examinations.…
