UNIT 1 – INTRODUCTION TO MARKETING


A . Marketing

• Define marketing

-Marketing is more than just selling and advertising activities

-Marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception (product), pricing, promotion and place (distribution) (4 Ps) of ideas, goods and services to create exchanges (with customers) that satisfy individual and organizational objectives (needs).

-Using marketing, we can satisfy customer needs (creating utility) through the exchange process.
Utility is the satisfaction, value, or usefulness a user receives from a good or service. (Value that comes from satisfying human needs)

4 types or utility: -
Form  production of the good, driven by the marketing function. Example : Baskin Robbins turns cream, sugar and milk into
icecream.
Task  someone performs the task for customer.
Example : write a will by Amanah Raya Berhad
Place  make product available where customers will buy the product.
Example : Delivery vehicles
Time  make the product available whenever customers want to buy the
product.
Example : 7-11 (open 24 hours)
Possession  once you own the product, u have the right over it (can do
whatever u want with it)


• Explain marketing for services
- to market any activity or benefit that one party can offer to another that is essentially intangible and does not result the ownership of anything.
Services -services industries : hotel, airlines, banks, museum, advertising
companies
-product based industries : lawyer, medical staff, trainers, police
