Difference of B2C and B2B Web Sites
Marketing strategies for business to business (B2B) companies and business to consumer (B2C) companies might be viewed as being the same, but in fact there are several differences. Emotions are different in regards to purchasing for oneself and purchasing for another business, therefore marketing techniques for each need to reflect that difference. While B2B focuses on the relationship aspect of the business, B2C focuses more on the actual sale of the product, and that is why emotions will be different for each of those types of purchases. It is important to know that "[a]lthough the marketing programs are the same for each type of business (events, direct marketing, internet marketing, advertising, public relations, word of mouth, and alliances), how they are executed, what they say, and the outcome of the marketing activities differ" (Marketing, 2009). The first step of any marketing strategy is, obviously, distinguishing who the customer is and why they want to purchase your product or service (Marketing, 2009). The differences in marketing after the initial step will be addressed in this paper.
In the business world, relationship building and communication are the company's main focus. Therefore, it is important for a B2B company to use marketing activities that edify the target market. Generally, a business decision to purchase a product or service has several steps involved, which is why it is so important for B2B companies to educate all the people that may be involved in the purchasing process. By informing other businesses about their product or service, they are ultimately planting the seed for a positive relationship with those other businesses, which is a means for survival in a way (Marketing, 2009).
