Southwest airlines, is the only airlines that is making a profit right now. This is because they have effective management and leadership skills. They are always planning and looking for they people to be outstanding leaders and managers. Southwest wants their management to be leaders and not followers. They want to stay on top of the airline industry and do the things that make their customer happy. They believe that good workers and satisfied customers make a great business. They believe that when they have good employees and happy customers; this will make the workers work harder to stay on top. The customer will return and this makes for one happy family.
“The act of management then follows the act of leadership. Once the best course of directions has been decided, management- doing things right-pick up the ball, looks at the objectives
established by leadership and says, “Okay, here is the best way to get there (Bobinski, 2004).”
Managing a team of people involves accepting their strengths and weaknesses of each individual within the work team and giving each person responsibilities for the most favorable efficiency. In fact, there are many ways to look at the differences is to compare leadership with usefulness and management with good organization with effectiveness and management with efficiency.
In other words, mangers are not need to create good management.
“According to the current wisdom, managers are principally administrators-they write business plans, set budgets and monitor progress, Leaders on the other get organization and people to change (Maccoby, 2000).” Management is a function that is often looking at has whatever needs to be done to keep things going.
