Machiovelli, The Prince

The Prince is the main and important political treatise of Florentine public servant Niccolo Machiavelli. For a contemporary reader this work may seem to be a common knowledge; most of the authors’ discoveries are taken for granted now because they had found their use in the history of previous centuries. Originally named De Principatibus (About Principalities) it was finished in 1515 and published only in 1532.
Niccolo Machiavelli was born on May 3, 1469 in Florence, during Renaissance epoch. In his youth Florence was rules by Lorenzo de Medici, but after his death political instability started. At the age of 29 Niccolo became second chancellor of newly established Republic of Florence. But in 1512 Medici family regained control of Florence and Machiavelli was dismissed from his position. In 1514 he finished his work The Prince that was directed to Giuliani de Medici, but because of his death he redirected it to Lorenzo de Medici (grandson of Lorenzo). The first reactions on his work were critical; blaming him for terrifying accurate description of rulers. But still we cannot reject that The Prince had great influence on political thought and ethics.
The Prince can be regarded as practical guide for great ruling. It is not just a theoretical work, but a collection of algorithms that explain what to do in order to achieve a certain result. He did not harden the reading process by using some difficult speech, but on contrary applies simple and straightforward logic. He desires to provide easily understandable advice book. One could write a few toms in order to explain the ideas that Niccolo had brought through a short essay. A deep analysis given in the book are the result of a long thinking on that topic and a great desire to make the place he lives in better, by teaching the main ruler to be clever and wise.
