Gay Marriage
Love Knows No Gender
All people have the right to make their own choices on who they love, right? Wrong. Think about all of the people who are homosexual. There are laws prohibiting them, telling them that they can’t marry the person thy love because of their sexual. Orientation. They can be together, but they cannot make it official because of a law. That would be like telling heterosexual people that they can’t marry the person they love for some reason. It’s a violation of the Constitution. The Constitution states that people have the freedom of choice. How is this being honored when gay couples cannot make the choice to marry who they wish to marry?
Homosexual couples should be given the right to marriage because of respect. People may say that they don’t “like” what homosexual stands for and they are not respecting their choices by saying things like that. I don’t necessarily agree with homosexuality, but I do respect the opinions and feelings of those who are homosexual. I believe in treating people the way that I would want to be treated. I know everyone can’t and will never come to a middle ground and accept homosexuality. Though gay couples that want to be married to one another, in my opinion, should have that right. Heterosexuals have the right to be with whom ever they choose to be with, why should it be wrong just because a person likes the same sex as himself or herself that they can’t be legally married?
The gay community is expressing their freedom of choice rights in different ways. I believe they want to be accepted as a normal American couple, in love, in marriage and in their pursuit of happiness. However, some communities cannot accept things that are not traditional. This country is based on spiritual love, Christianity and the love thy neighbor as thyself. Every choice that we make there is a consequence and social accountability for those choices.
