Love as an Entity
May you be an atheist or a devotee, a cynic or a romantic, a pessimist or an optimist, love will always be the core of everything. An atheist may not believe in God but they believe in love; devotees associate love to God; cynics may not believe in people and has a bad opinion on love but still they believe in it; romantics believe so much in love; a pessimist may expect the worst of things and still they believe in love; and an optimist see all the good in the world and that there is love. All of them have different views and ideas about love. One may define love as something the greatest gift of God or the greatest thing that ever happen to anyone. The other may view it as something as pain and of making a fool of oneself. The opinions vary, depending on whose point of view you look at it, but there is one thing they are all talking about and it is love.
What is love exactly? One man tried explaining it. He is Karol Wojtyla. In his book “Love and Responsibility”, he talked about the human person, human sexuality, love and marriage. The book consists of five chapters in which tackles different topics all to give light on what love is. A particular chapter, which is chapter two, of the book talks about the relationship of the human person and love. It has three major parts, each divided into sections. The parts are entitled “Metaphysical Analysis of Love”, ‘Psychological Analysis of Love”, and “The Ethical Analysis of Love”.
The first part, “Metaphysical Analysis of Love”, focused on three basic major elements in any form of human interpersonal love, namely attraction, desire, and goodwill. Attraction is the essence of love although love is not merely attraction. For Wojtyla, attraction is not just an element of love but one of the essential components of love as a whole. But he holds, that love must be rooted on truth and that one must not just love the person for his/her certain qualities but one must love the other for his/her whole...
