Louis Sachar Research Paper

Louis Sachar was born in East Meadow, New york in 1954. When Louis was

nine years old, they moved to Tutson in Orange county, California, a rural area just

begging to suburbanize At the time, there were orange groves all around, and the

local kids would often divide up in to teams and have ornge fights. He injoyed

school and louis was a good student, but it wasn't until
high school that he really

became a divoted reader.

After high school, he attended Antioch colledge in Ohio. It wasn't long,

though,

before he received
word of his fathers sudden unexpected death. Louis returned to

California to be near his mother and he also took a semester off from school,

During that time, he had a short but surprisingly
succsesful as a Fuller Brush Man.

One day on campus, he saw an unlikely sight of an elementry school girl handing out

flyers. He took one from her. It said - "HELP! We need teachers aids at our school.

Earn three units of credits." He thought it over and decided it was a pretty good deal

Colledge credits, no homework, no termspapers, notests, easyer than learning

russion, and all he had to do was watch a bunch of kids at hill side elementery

school.

So, he beacame a noon tume supervisor. It became his favorite colledge class, and a life changing

expierience. He found that he didn't like all the little stories that the childeren were reading, as he had always

wanted to write, so he decided to try his hand at a childerens book of his own. Hillside Elementry became the

insperration for his first manuscript, "Sideways Stories From West Side School". All the kids named in the in

the book were named after the kids he new at Hill Side. He even included him self as a chariter called "Louis

the yard teacher", In the mean time he graduated in 1976 with a degree in ecenomics.

His first job after coledge was in a sweater ware house in nor walk, Conneticut. Not the best use of his...
