Why Aren’t More People
Listening to Satellite Radio?
Introduction
Imagine taking a long road trip, with your “free” radio stations preset in your car. You’re listening to music then all of a sudden – static. What happened? Where did the music go that was making this dull ride bearable? When you travel to far from the source station, you lose your signal and it fades into static (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/satellite-radio5.htm)
This is where satellite radio would be beneficial. No lost signals, tons of music and radio shows to choose from, updated weather and traffic all the time, no censorship, and no commercials – just to name a few perks of satellite radio. With all of these benefits, why aren’t more people listening to satellite radio?
This question is important because we are researching this as if satellite radio is our client, and we want to find out what can be done to get people to switch to satellite radio. Satellite radio is only 4.8% of the population; whereas, regular radio is 93.7% (http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-Many-People-Are-Turning-To-Satellite-Radio-For-Their-Music&id=343529). Our main questions are why people don’t listen to satellite radio, what can be done to get people to listen to satellite radio, and how can we do that. We created a questionnaire to help answer these questions.
The main purpose of our research is to gain more consumers for satellite radio, as well as help them grow and become more mainstream. We want to find out people’s motives in choosing what kind of radio they listen to, and use that information to benefit satellite radio.
Some major benefits to satellite radio are:
• Entertainment – many different programs and music
• Knowledge
• Freedom of Speech - uncensored
• Attitude re-enforcement
• Brand loyalty to a program
• Variety – meets a wide spectrum of consumer’s needs
