Setting
The setting for Lirael is the Clayr’s Glacier which is situated in the mountains of the north. Lirael had lived there all her life and she had never been outside and Lirael enters the special world when she goes out of the glacier on the boat Finder on the Ratterlin River into the old kingdom. The setting for Sameth is in Ancelstierre, Bain where he goes to Somersby Secondary school and Sameth enters the special world when he goes on a rescue mission.

Plot and Structure
Lirael has become a third assistant librarian and has woken up to the 4th key spell in her bracelet by pure curiosity. She had wanted to explore all the interesting places and the old levels but there were too many people around so she didn’t go into forbidden rooms. One day, her chance to explore the library had finally come when the Clayr had summoned 1568 which was all the Clayr with the sight, to the watch. She wandered into the old levels and discovered an interesting door, so she went in. She went through a corridor which ended into a vast chamber. In the chamber, there was a huge oak tree and a pool next to it. Across the room, a gate barred the way to another corridor so she used her bracelet to open the gate and went in. Through the dark corridor she went and later into a small rectangle room. She saw a desk with a small statuette of a dog. She took one step closer and snatched the figure, when the dark glass pane cracked open to reveal a Stilken lying. She began to run, even with her injuries of the broken glass, and the Stilken awoke and chased her. She ran across the corridor, into the vast chamber and then into the outer corridor and finally outside. She tries to close the door but the Stilken comes and starts opening it so brings up one of the greater charters and creates a spell to shut the door, before fainting.
