Life Cycle Systems Development
The seven phases of the systems development life cycle are: project planning, systems analysis, systems design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance.
Project planning is something a company does when they realize they need something new. A company will use four types of feasibility analysis to determine a decision. The four types of feasibility analyses a company should use are: technical, economic, operational, and schedule.
A technical feasibility analysis is the consideration of existing technology and how it can help the company. The risk of developing a new technology has to be taken into consideration. The company has to contemplate whether or not people in the company have any expertise in the technology that is being considered.
An economic feasibility analysis is figuring out whether or not a company will profit from a system. People in the company have to figure the cost of the investment and determine if the system is worth investing in or not.
An operational feasibility analysis considers how people will be affected by a change of the system. Each person’s role has to be looked at because everyone could react to a certain situation differently.
A schedule feasibility analysis decides how a company will use its time productively. The company will determine when and who will start each phase in the company.
A system analysis figures out the problem so that a solution can be made. The system analysis is basically the decision maker that helps out when a problem needs a better course of action.
The system design phase is figuring out how the system will function and what parts it should have. Logical systems designs, and physical systems design are the two areas of systems designs. Logical systems designs details how the system will operate and how it will work. Physical systems design breaks down the components that are needed to make the system function like it needs to.
