Introduction
This paper, based on the Managing Across Organization simulation presented in class material, briefly describes the organizational structure, organizational culture, power structure and organizational politics of Good Sport, and explains how these four components affecting and impacting one another. This paper then shifts the attention to organizational change by identifying reasons for changes in Good Sport, and further the subject by providing implementation strategies and management of conflicts arise from these changes.
Overview of Good Sport
Good Sport is a 15-year-old fitness equipment manufacturer based in Coral Springs, Florida. They design, produce, and manufacture fitness equipments such as treadmills, bikes, steppers, and rowers. The company is founded by Jason Poole, an NBA veteran, who is now the Chairman of the Board, and after overcoming the difficult start-up stage, his major role in the company is to act as an ambassador on TV to endorse Good Sport products. The company is now led by Marvin Wallace, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who has tremendous passion and enthusiasm for the company, which evident by his A+ report card in the past four years for responsible of driving the company forward with investment in improving the performance of the sales, production, and the research and development (R&D) teams. By introducing Good Sport products to hospitals, the company’s business has grown vastly and now expanding to the neighboring states – Georgian, North Carolin, and South Carolina (University of Phoenix Online, 2007).
Despite its huge success, Good Sport is facing several major issues within the organization. One of the issues is compatibility of organizational structure and organizational culture.
