Leadership Within Target Corporation
Started by a man named George D. Dayton, Target Corporation has been leading since day one. In 1918 Dayton creates the Dayton Foundation with only one million dollars. By 1946 the company had established laws stating that atleast five percent of the company's profits would go to the community. Between the years of 1990 and 1999, three major things happened for the corporation. Firstly, "Take Charge of Education," which allowed Target, Visa, and Target Guest Club card holders to give one percent of their purchases to a K-12 school of their choice. Secondly, "Target House," which provided housing for families of children that were receiving treatment at St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. Lastly, "Start Something," which is a partnership with Tiger Woods that inspires success and builds character in children ages 8-17. Over these past six or so years, Target has continued to grow and show their leadership in this fast growing world. Their company-wide commitment to community service only picked up energy as well. It is estimated that Target gives more than two million dollars a week to the communities that Target stores serve. Target has been setting the standards high since day one. Many other companies have learned and advanced because of Target Coporation taking charge and leading the way.
