Leadership is the ability to influence others to achieve a common purpose. It is a process where a leader influences a group of people to reach a common goal. What to look for in a leader are those leadership traits and behaviors that cultivate the growth of followers and the organization. Our group consisted of Diane Alvarado, Michael Furtado, and Elizabeth Hall. We are all current students of Johnson and Wales University in the Business program. That being said, we decided to interview two leaders in the business field but in different industries- the first interviewee is an entrepreneur of an ice cream shop and the second interviewee holds a managerial position at a financial firm.??On Tuesday, July 15th, 2008, I interviewed Mr. Kevin Aherne. Kevin is a young 26 year old New Englander, who holds a high position as Lead Operations and Financial Analyst at Columbia Management, which is part of the Bank of America Corporation. This department at Columbia Management is only two years old and since the opening of the department, Kevin has had this position. Columbia Management is a division of Bank of America Corporation that handles mutual funds transfer. This company was formed in Denver Colorado and in 2006 moved its corporate office to Rhode Island. One of Kevin's main duties involves reviewing about 1.5-2 billion dollars worth of transactions daily. His department is responsible for reviewing data work, authorizing request and processing information. It is very important the detail involved throughout the process. Kevin manages the department that reviews the information and verifying that the information the person has is legitimate. A person requesting money is then authorized. Kevin makes sure that his employees follow the first line of defense before wrong doing. Meaning they have to look at the history of the applicant and the shareholders, and verify that there are not any red flags. Kevin's main duties include but not limited to seeing new shares,...
