Did you know that a television star could also be the leader of a world power at the same time? Sounds like a difficult job huh? If you ask Hugo Chávez he will just tell you it's just another day on the job. Hugo Chávez is the current president of Venezuela which not long ago was a dwindling and poverty stricken country in South America. Well a lot has changed since Chávez took office in 1999. Don't get me wrong Venezuela is still located in South America but the whole poverty scene has been undergoing a massive face-lift. These changes have been viewed as both good and bad; let's see if we can look at the Chávez figure in a different view, how about looking at his leadership strengths and leadership weaknesses. A few of the more prominent strengths are; nurturing, good communication, great personality, and an outstanding politician. Now a few of the less revered weaknesses would be; singled minded, nationalistic, unpredictable, and ego centric. For a better understanding lets go into detail and try to piece together the parts of this contemporary leader.
The first leadership strength that is seen by many of Chávez's followers and supporters is his nurturing and caring nature. His popularity ratings soared after he gave out free health care and food from government subsidizing. (National Geographic vol. 209 No.4 p. 85) Even though some would say that he has had limited success in doing this, you still have to consider this as a leadership strength because most world power leaders didn't get to that point by stooping to the bottom of society and working there way up from there.
