Introduction
Adolf Hitler is an infamous politician who had inspired people and offered a ray of hope to many during the war-devastated times, yet created fear in the hearts of many. Warren Buffet is a remarkable investor whose humble beginnings and determination, hard work and values made him the world’s richest man today (Miller, 2008). Though the two leaders exist in different eras and contributed differently, we would like to examine them in today’s context as to which leader would be more effective in leading people.
Topics we will be covering are their personality traits, power and politics as well as their charismatic leadership. For the personality traits of leaders, we will be looking into how different or similar personality traits of each leader can affect the effectiveness of their leadership. Following that, we shall see how charismatic leadership determines how varying personality and influential tactics used has an impact on both Hitler and Buffett. Lastly, in power and politics, we examine the strategies that leaders could use to acquire and retain their influence.
Characteristics & Traits
The leader’s personality trait and his mental ability and agility can affect the effectiveness of his leadership. We shall examine the personality traits of the following leaders as well as their cognitive factors.
Hitler is a man who was overly self-confident by his arrogance which made him the greatest blunder of World War II from his defeat in Stalingrad. Besides, he believed that he was the greatest human of all time. According to Muller (1997, p. 8) “Hitler saw himself as a genius of military strategy and tactics, unlike the conservative generals who served under him”. As for his values, Hitler could not tolerate criticisms from anyone who disagreed with his enlightened opinions, views, or decisions.
