Leadership Amd Team Developement
In this paper, I will explain what a team is, the different types of teams and why they are developed. The paper will touch on some of the obstacles teams face and explain some of the skills, attitudes, and resources required to make a team effective. It will explain how the team leader plays an intricate piece to a team’s success. Then I will conclude by explaining some of the benefits in developing effective teams within a business environment.
Teams are found in many modern workplace environments. A team is a group of people coming together to collaborate. This collaboration is to reach a shared goal or task for which they hold themselves mutually accountable. A group of people is not necessarily a team. “A team is a group of people with a high degree of interdependence geared towards the achievement of a common goal or completion of a task rather than just a group for administrative convenience”. [1] A group, by definition, is a number of individuals having some unifying relationship. Many such groups – e.g., people stuck in traffic together, all retirees, or people who like vanilla ice cream – would never be mistaken for “teams”.
There are four types of team’s work, quality, problem solving and virtual teams. Work teams people share the workload with each other and competition between work teams help to encourage productivity. Quality teams are more flexible than work teams in that they are not necessarily a fixed group of people. They are created under one manager and mandate the team to improve quality over-all in a department. Quality teams are proactive while problem-solving teams are created to be reactive to the problems of an organization. Quality and Problem Solving should be made up of people from different departments, Virtual teams help to reduce expenses and increase productivity.
