Atticus the Hero

Many people in today's world are heroes. These people include the men and women who put their lives on the line during the 9-11 attacks on the U.S. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus is a hero because of the little things he does throughout the book. Atticus is kind throughout the story as a result of never disrespecting anyone, or any thing. Atticus shows bravery throughout the story when he sticks up for what is right.
Atticus shows kindness often during the novel. Atticus shows kindness to all of the ladies of the town when he accidentally interrupts them and says "'excuse me ladies … go right ahead with your meeting, don't let me disturb you'" (235). Atticus also shows kindness to Boo Radley when Boo is in Atticus' house. Scout keeps calling him Boo, but Atticus says "'Mr. Arthur, honey … Jean Louise, this is Mr. Arthur Radley'" (271). Atticus is very kind to Boo because Boo saved his children's lives. Atticus is portrayed as a kind man throughout the novel.
Atticus demonstrates bravery all throughout the novel. One place he shows bravery is when Mr. Bob Ewell spits in his face. Atticus shows bravery because even though he is very mad, he just takes it. Atticus knows that if Mr. Ewell takes his anger out on Atticus, it will save Mayella a beating. Atticus is very brave when he accepts the case to defend Tom Robinson. Atticus says "' I'm simply defending a negro, his name's Tom Robinson'" (75); Atticus is very brave because he knows he has to accept this case because every lawyer gets a case like this, and this is Atticus' case. Atticus knows when he accepts the case that he is going to lose, but he is going to try as hard as he can to help an innocent man. Atticus also knows that his and his families' lives could be on the line, because Mr. Ewell said he would get Atticus if it was the last thing he did.
