To Kill A Mockingbird

The title of a book usually gives many hints into what the book is essentially about (the theme). However, sometimes the title is a metaphor for many events that will occur throughout the entire book and you have to figure out how the title is related to that event. This is the case in the book, "To Kill a Mockingbird". There were three main instances in which the title illuminates the theme. These events are: when Atticus gives the children their air rifles, the Tom Robinson case, and when Boo Radley rescued her and Jem at the end of the novel and was forced to kill Bob Ewell.
The first instance in which we become aware of the "killing a mockingbird" motif is when Scout and Jem receive their air riffles from Atticus. Atticus tells the children that killing a mockingbird is unjust because it is such an innocent and beautiful bird. He also says that it is immoral because all a mockingbird does is make beautiful music for the world to hear.
Tom Robinson was like a mockingbird in relation to Mayella because all he ever did was try to help and treat her right. When Bob and Mayella Ewell accused Tom of raping Mayella it was like killing a mockingbird. And again it was like killing a mockingbird when Tom was convicted of rape. This accusation and conviction brought about an abundance trouble to him and inevitably caused him to loose his life. Tom was a very harmonious man who tried his greatest to make the humanity around him happy and tried as much as one could to help them with whatever it was they needed. However, his precious life was taken unnecessarily.
Boo Radley was a very mysterious, yet harmless, man. At the end of the novel he rescued the children and essentially killed Bob Ewell. Because of the fact that Boo killed a man, Atticus wanted to put him on trial, but Scout realized that if Boo was put on trial, it would be just like killing a mocking bird.
