Introduction
Project management is a natural occurrence in every organization these days, from project teams working towards achieving a business objective to project teams improving morale. Regardless of the type of project team in question, a knowledge and understanding of managing teams is essential in order for organizations to achieve maximum effectiveness from these project teams.
Kerzner Office Equipment (KOE) is one of the ten best local firms to work for in South Carolina, but that has not always been the case (Gray & Larson, 2005, KOE case, ¶2). KOE, a manufacturer and retailer of high end office furniture and equipment, faced a situation in which in the not too distance past made the decision to lay off roughly 350 employees. This was naturally a very difficult period for the organization and in an attempt to turn the organization around a new CEO was hired, Justin Tubbs. Mr. Tubbs commitment to the employees has been the cornerstone to his tenure with KOE and as such has decided that the upcoming 10th anniversary milestone of the organization should be a celebration of the employees. Handing the task over to Amber Briggs, human resource specialist, Mr. Tubbs has made the purpose and objectives very clear. With the help of 14 employees who were assigned to participate in this task force, Ms. Briggs will need to, as project manager, create a high performing team. High performing teams exhibit positive synergy and are bonded together by mutual interdependency and a common goal (Gray & Larson, 2005). Understanding project team dynamics and the various tools available to make team success can be done by researching other organizations and their project teams.
