KENYA
Pre-colonial Kenya was ruled differently overtime it was either ruled by counciles of elders, chiefs, or kings. People from northern Africa began to move in to Kenya in 2000 BC. Around the first century Arab traders began to make frequent stops in Kenya. By the 8th century Arab and Persian people began to settle along the cost. Over time the muslum religion traveled to Kenya, As well as slavery.
Kenya is located in Eastern Africa boarding the Indian Ocean, between Somalia and Tanzania. Kenya has a total area of 582,646 sq km. The equator passes through the middle of the country. Kenya is cover with lots of volcanic rock, especially in the west. Kenya’s largest lake is Lake Turkana located in the north. It has a few smaller lakes, Lake Baringo, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivahsa, and Lake Magadi, that all either in or close to the Eastern Rift. Kenyas main natural reasurce is its land. The land is the mostly desert, simidesert, or forests.
The Portuguse were the first Europeans to explore Kenya. Omiani Arabs mainly controlled the costal areas. Most historians conceder Germany to be the country that colonized Kenya in 1885. The Imperial British East Africa Company in 1888 followed the Germans in going into Kenya. In the 1890’s the Kenya-Uganda railway was built passing through the country. During the early part of the 20th century British and other European farmers became wealthy farming coffee and tea. In 1951, Sir Horace Hector Hearne Became Chief Justice in Kenya, he held the position untill 1954. Kenya gained its independence on December 12, 1963.
It has a population of 32,499,100 people....
