Caesar. The name which is a symbol of power, strength and accomplishment was the name of the famous leader of Rome. This political figurehead fought many battles, had many triumphs, some downfalls and was lead by the overwhelming desire for power but undoubtedly changed history.
Born into a wealthy family in 100 BCE Gaius Julius Caesar was brought up in luxury. Despite his family’s wealth Caesar had a tough childhood. His mother Aurelia was extremely strict and he was beaten if he made mistakes. Caesar’s father served as a senator and at the age of fifteen, Caesar was introduced to the political life which would serve as his career.
At the time, the Republic’s expansion had caused political instability in Rome. There were high expectations of achievement and the pressure to restore the family name for Caesar. This added frustration and after Caesar’s father’s death, this led to even more pressure as Caesar became the family head.
At sixteen he married a daughter of a person of high political rank. Later he then became an officer in the army and spent four years on the Asian minor. His physical endurance proved to be phenomenal and it is from here Caesar’s rise to power began.
After returning to Rome Caesar began pursuing his political career. He was not accepted by the elite and did not receive support from the senators. As a result he turned to ordinary citizens and campaigned in the slums of Rome. Caesar was a lavish spender and borrowed large amounts of money for extravagant dinner parties and shows.
Caesar decided to run in the election to become the supreme priest of Rome. This was a political gamble with many risks- however, Caesar won with many gains. After being appointed supreme priest Caesar was determined to become consul. He later formed a triumvirate with Pompey- the power in the triumvirate, Crassus- the money in the triumvirate and himself who as feared....
