Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a novel about a young couple’s battle against fate. The story contains many character, each with their own attributes and actions. One of the most trait-evolved characters, each with their own attributes and actions. One of the most trait-evolved characters is Juliet Capulet. Although Juliet was brave, loyal, and persistent, her battle with fate was tragically lost. When Juliet’s father promises Juliet’s hand in marriage to Count Paris, she thinks of every possible way to prevent the wedding before going to Friar Lawrence for help. “If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help, do thou but call my resolution wise, and with this knife I’ll help it presently” (Shakespeare, Act I Scene i Lines 52-54). After Friar Lawrence gives Juliet the potion that will fake her death, she expresses her fears about the consequences of drinking it. “I have a faint cold fear thrills through my veins that almost freezes up the heat of life” (Act V Scene iii Lines 15-16). Juliet runs through all the worst possible situations but eventually, she drinks the potion anyway. “Romeo! Romeo! Romeo! I drink to thee” (Act V Scene iii Line 58). Juliet overcomes her fears and completes the task necessary to not marry Count Paris.

After Juliet finds Romeo’s dead body, she kisses his lips, hoping some poison lingers on his lips and will be enough to kill her. “I will kiss thy lips, haply some poison yet doth hang on them, to make me die with a restorative” (Act V Scene iii Lines 164-166) Juliet can’t stand the thought of living without Romeo so she tragically kills herself to be with him.
