Character Defense
John Proctor
Our client John Proctor has been charged with the crimes:
Convincing Mary Warren to stand against her beliefs, and therefore putting her in danger of hanging.
Lying to save his own and then dying to make himself look like a martyr.
Adultery
Proctor has done many bad things. He's a lecher who led Abigail to think that he loved her. Doing what he did led a lot of innocent people to die because Abigail did whatever she could to have John. Yes, he convinced Mary that if she said the so-called truth god will be on her side and no harm could come to her, and while she was doing that she was almost convicted of witch craft and was about to be hung herself. John also lied to save his life but ended up dying making his self look like a sacrifice.
He may have done awful things but he also managed to turn it around to something good. Okay he lead Abigail on and committed adultery, but he ended up telling Abigail that it was a mistake and could never see her again. He confessed to his wife and god, and managed to stay loyal to her ever since the affair. Proctor lied to save his life, which is partially true. Did he or did he not try to free his wife Elizabeth or Rebecca Nurse in the process? He had petitions and whatever else he needed to try and convince Danforth that they were innocent. He also put Mary Warren's life in danger but during her confession he was by her side a hundred percent trying to help her. Put yourself in Proctor's shoes wouldn't you do anything so save your wife, husband, and friend or neighbor even if you have to lie about, and know that you mean no harm by it.
Right when John confessed he took the confession paper and ripped it up so nobody's name got ruined, you would not want that paper out their if it had your family's maiden name on there.
