Positive impacts of Social Media
In this century, you can not go anywhere without there being around social media, with 98% of U.S. adults ages 18-24, (Statisticbrain) social media is pretty hard to avoid. Social media is a website or application that enables users to connect with one another and share ideas. Social media is very innovative, there are plentiful positive impacts of social media, that many people do not even come to realize, because they usually just see the negative impacts. Social media has much more good, than bad in it. According to Sarah Lee Katz from CNN "On the whole, teens said that they feel that social media has a more positive than negative impact on their social and emotional lives." (Katz)
Social network sites spread information faster than any other media. (procon.org) 1.4 billion people use facebook world wide. (statisticbrain) According to socialnetworkingprocon.org, over 50% of people learn breaking news through social media. (procon.org) If a child went missing, law enforcement uses social media to get the word out and inform people about the missing child. Law enforcement also use social media to inform people if a criminal got loose. If a criminal were to escape, they use social media to help catch and prosecute the criminal. Social media is also much faster at sending messages, rather than fifty years ago, you had to mail a letter to communicate with them. This is especially innovative because if you have to tell someone something that is an emergency or is very urgent and they are four hours away it is much more convenient to send a message on facebook.
Social media makes us more aware about what is going on in our own society and in other countries, without social media sites like “youtube, facebook” etc, many of us would not even know about the Malaysian jet line that went missing over a month ago. Many of users rely on social media to keep “up to date” on important news that is going on in the world.

Many teenagers love social media because of its wide connectivity and function that people can receive it for free; it does not require money to make an account and use it. Facebook is the most visible among various social media. What’s impressive about this site is that you can easily connect with your long lost friends and see how they’re doing, or vice versa. You can also make new friends in Facebook. Though this could get addictive and may divert our attention away from the real world. Like what Cornell University’s Steven Strogatz said; “Social media sites can make it more difficult for us to distinguish between meaningful relationships we foster in the real world, and the numerous casual relationships formed through social media.” I strongly agree with this statement. Also, people become a whole new person, because it’s the Internet. People can be anything or anyone in the Internet.…

Another reason why Social Media is a good Resource is because Social networking sites spread information faster than any other media. Like whenever something happens such as: Traffic jam, Weather, News, Crimes… etc it tells you right away! Although some people might argue that Social media enables the spread of unreliable and false information. 49.1% of people have heard false news via social media, for example, on the news it says it’s going to snow on 12-31-12, and then on Facebook it says it already snowed when it didn’t.…
