James Monroe Influence On History
James Monroe Many people make it in history but not many people make history. James Madison made history. Madison was responsible for the Monroe Doctrine, the Spanish Florida purchase, he also served as an ambassador for in France and Britain for the United States, most importantly he served as the fifth president of the United States.
James Monroe was born April 28, 1758 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the son of a “prosperous planter” Spencer Monroe and Elizabeth Jones Monroe (Miller Center). Monroe was elected to the Virginia Assembly, which then led for him to serve on the Council of State he was then elected to the Continental Congress. James Monroe worked to expand the power of Congress, he helped organize the government for the west and he also protected the American navigation on the Mississippi River.
Monroe was later appointed to be an ambassador for France. During the time Monroe was in France, he helped ease the ties with France which lead to the Louisiana Purchase. America was caught in the middle of the English and French war. The French did not like the neutrality of the United States so United States called back Monroe for safety reasons. The United States did not want him to get in trouble with the French.
