1. Introduction
Myth is an important element of society. When talking about myth we mostly think of ancient stories, forgetting that myths are created through all ages of human development. Modern myth exists together with ancient myth, and both serve the same purpose. But what is that purpose, why are we in need of myth? I want to explain the necessity of myth with the example of a story that was told in Frankfurt since the final year of World War II and is still remembered by the people of that time so although memory has faded among that people and not so many are still alive. Through history myth is a constant matter of interest of philosophers and all kind of scientists, so there are many different theories on myth, but the unique theory that fits all, has still to be discovered. To make the category of myth more understandable I will the mythological story compare to a piece of post war literature and work out the similarities and the differences. And then I will explain the function of myth for society and for the individual.

2. What really happened
In the years 1943 till 1945 a severe bombing of mayor German cities by American and English bombing squads took place. During those attacks people went to air-raid shelters and when the attack ended and they came out again sometimes their whole street was razed to the ground. Most times there were many death and casualties among people who did not went to air-raid shelters. But those air-raid shelters got bombed too and people were buried alive, burned (phosphor...
