Today’s HR professional is faced with many challenging changes that affect the organization’s growth and development. Three major issues are global and economic changes, technology and e-business.
This paper will address the critical issues and challenges for Human Resource Management Professional.
Global and Economic changes
The situation in which businesses compete is becoming globalized. More companies are entering international markets due to exporting their products overseas, building plants in other countries, and entering into alliances with foreign companies. Global competition and changes are creating changes in organizations throughout the world. By expanding internationally companies are gaining a competitive advantage.
Deciding whether to enter foreign markets and whether to develop plants or other facilities in other countries is no simple matter and many human resource issues surface (Mathis & Jackson, 2003).
When companies decide to do business globally it requires for the adaptation of many things that differ from country to country and from continent to continent, such as culture and politics, which are two of the major challenges. Human resource regulations and laws differ among countries in character and detail. This creates a challenge for the HR department. HR is responsible for being current on labor laws, and harassment laws, which differ from country to country.
It is critical for HR professional to focus on globalization as it relates to legal factors, politics and culture. By focusing on these three things it will prevent any violations and or disrespect of various cultures, it will also prevent many legal issues from surfaces. There can be legal and financial impacts due to lack of acknowledgement of laws, politics and culture. HR can provide diversity training, to cover the cultural issues and political affairs.
