Question: What is it about this country that fascinates you most? Plan out a trip to this country including any excursions, trips, historical landmarks and cultural/societal sites you would visit. After reading about this country, would you go on this trip? Why or why not?
If I were to go to Ireland I would go in the May or June. I would spend a total of two weeks in Ireland. I would first fly from San Francisco to the Dublin Airport. I would spend 3 days there. I may go to some museums such as The Old Library which is a 1712 chamber that holds a priceless collection of ancient manuscripts (including the legendary Book of Kells) or The National Gallery, a collection of over 2500 canvases, only 800 of which are on active display. This gallery has paintings by painters such as Vermeer, Brueghel and Goya. I may also want to go to theatres such as the Abbey Theatre which features a lot of international drama. There is also a lot of shopping in Dublin. I think that a mixture of these activities should be enough to keep me entertained for 3 days.
Next I would hitch a ride to Newgrange where I would spend one day. Newgrange is a Neolithic burial site that is older than the Egyptian pyramids. Next I would take a bus or a taxi to the Hill of Tara where I would spend 1 day as well. Tara was the social, political and cultural center of Ireland from prehistoric times until the Tenth century. Standing at the top of the hill, on a good day it is said that you can see 20% of the country. It also has the largest collection of Celtic monuments in the world. After the Hill of Tara I would head off to Athlone, where I would take a rest from tourism for a day. It is the transportation hub of Ireland, but is said to be very calm and peaceful.
