What:
This exercise involves working in a group of 5 students to gather information about a major area of OB (e.g., motivation, communication, decision making, leadership, etc.), and collect information from an off- or on campus business or nonprofit organizations, or a department of such an organization.

1. Information gathering and analysis in order to:
1) Identifying one or two major problem(s) that the target organization/department has in an OB area (e.g., high turnover) in which your group is interested, using relevant theories to diagnose reasons, and providing valuable and workable suggestions; or

2) Identifying one or two major measure(s) relevant to an OB area that the target organization/department has taken as a management improvement effort over the last three years, and analyzing and evaluating its merits and shortcomings.

Information sources can be interviews, surveys, publications and documents, etc. A logical integration of different sources is encouraged.

2. Group presentation in class (15 minutes) on the results of the above. Presentations must include (but not be limited to) the following parts:
1) Information collection method(s) and procedures;
2) Background introduction about the organization/department;
3) Research problem(s)/measure(s) identification;
4) OB theories/literatures related to the topic(s); (You may need to find more articles beyond what the textbook says in your interest area from the library or on-line databases.)
5) Recommendation or evaluation to the problem(s)/measure(s).

Among the five parts, 3), 4), and 5) are the most important ones that deserve more attention and more time in your presentation.
