Company Introduction

Dell Inc. was formed in 1983 whilst being run through the college dormitory. In 1984 Michael Dell put $1000 for company start-up and so DELL COMPUTER CORPORATION was incorporated but kept on trading as PC's Limited as its registered name 5 months earlier. Michael Dell the founder of the company started in 1980 with Apple II and later to IBM by dismantling the machines gaining understanding of how they work. As a result he started buying parts and building custom specified made machines. Michael Dell sold stamps to his community and magazine subscriptions to newly wed couples where he made $18,000 per year before turning his full attention to computers as it was his hobby from the early years. Michael Dell's major question on starting business was how could we make the process of buying a computer better? ( Dell, 1999). He answered himself that by getting rid of the middle man, that will make a huge price cuts and eventually the customer will be a winner on savings, and so as he on market share and becoming the world No1 of TECHNOLOGY HARDWARE & EQUIPMENT vendor. In that sense DELL INC.'s "DIRECT BUSINESS MODEL" was born" (www.dell.com)

In July 2003 the shareholders of the company approved the name change to DELL INC as a result to Dell Inc.'s evolution from vending only computer hardware to selling a wide range of technological products and services. Due to efficient and effective global supply, the company gained more understanding of the customers needs and therefore applying costs leadership strategy and improving quality of products.
