IMPACT OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES(SNS) ON THE YOUTH OF INDIA : A BIRD’S EYE VIEW.

Abstract-This paper is focused to find out the answer whether

the social networking sites are boon or bane for today’s society.No doubt these SNS provides employment ,marketing ,personal growth ,sharing of information but the most prevalent danger through often involves online predators or individuals. These SNS has great impact on youth of India. One can easily see the entry gate of these social networking sites but it is unable to find exit for these SNS. One side these sites provide to communicate with our dear ones on the other side it creates platform for many cyber crimes. Everyone should be understood that The SNS is a “child of” computing “by computing” but” for the society “. So we focused on the fact that how SNS are implementing and used in an effective manner that is also beneficial for Indian society and what are the role of Indian youth .In this paper we focused on the positive as well as negative impact of these social networking sites on the Indian youth and what are the ethical responsibilities of the users of these sites. Keywords-IEEE standards ,internet,WI-FI, elecommunication, , online ownership, online credibility. SNS(Social networking sites)

are connected, both in their leisure time, and at work. There are various factors which have prompted us to consider the implications of these technologies for policy-making. One of these is the willingness of users to embrace SNS as a means of communication and social networking in everyday life. The increasing dependence on technology for basic communication also highlights the importance of analyzing how SNS are affecting daily processes. Sites like Face book, Friend ster and LinkedIn are influencing the way users establish, maintain and cultivate a range of social relationships, from close friendships to casual acquaintances.

    Online social media have gained astounding worldwide growth and popularity which has led to attracting attention from a variety of researchers globally. Social media effects millions of people worldwide daily and many teens spend at least a hour a day on social networking sites, today we will decide whether or not social media is a hindrance or a tool for teens and adults. Although with time all generations have come to accept the new technologies and offspring that it has, one of the offspring from technology in the 21st century is social media. Social networking has brought about, teenagers and young adults are the most fanatic users of these sites. According to various research studies in the field of online social networks, it has been revealed that these sites are impacting the lives of the youth greatly. When using these sites such as Twitter, Facebook or MySpace, there are both positive and negative effects on the youth and today we are going to contrast the two sides to see if the negative effects outweigh the positive effects. Some of the points that will be argued are that many people believe the use of social media helps with communicating but is not allowing us to make connections with the people we are interacting with. One of the most negative effects of social media is the reoccurring cases of cyber bullying; almost all teens that have social media accounts have seen or been involved in cyber bullying. Lastly we will discuss many positive effects of social media and how it can help keep people connected from all over the world.…

Now that I had a sound knowledge of what SN’s were, I turned to the scholarly article _“Social Networking, Gender and Friending – An analysis of My space user profiles” by Mike Thelwall of University of Wolverhampton_ to get a knowledge of who exactly uses SN’s. In this article Mike thoroughly explores and investigates the demographics of SNs. His key findings include the following, The median age for SN users is 21 and slightly younger teenagers Its youngest members are most likely to be females although the majority is small Teen users have more friends than average which is usually more than 90 The friendship circle sizes approximately follow a power law of distributions with 3 interpretations of friends, close friends, acquaintances and strangers Females are more interested in friendships than males Males are more interested in dating or serious relationships…
