To many people around the world, the United States is very appealing as a place to immigrate to start good lives. But not everyone can come to the US if they wanted to; there are lots of laws and restrictions, and you need a lot of money to do it. People who are fortunate enough to have family in the US can get a green card, but those who don¡¦t resort to smuggling themselves into the country. There are different types of immigrants who come to the US, some by legal means, others do not, and they are the ones who suffer the most.
Many immigrants who come to America today usually have family who are already here, and can sign them over as permanent residents, then they wait five years and then they can become citizens. This is the most popular way to immigrate over to the US, but the problem is you have to have relatives living in the US in order to do this.
Another way to immigrate to the US is as an international student. With good grades and a bachelor¡¦s degree, if you get hired by a company and sign a contract with them, they will help you to get a green card, and when you become a citizen, you can apply to help your family to immigrate to here. Many international students come here in order to try this way to immigrate.
The worst way and sometimes the saddest way to immigrate is illegally. On the news, they often talk about how a lot of Mexicans run across the border to get onto US soil, but those are not the most terrible ones. The saddest ones are the people who want to go to America so much they smuggle themselves into the country, usually by ship, or in the worst cases, in shipping containers with up to thirty people locked in a container for up to a month.
When most immigrants arrive in the United States, they try to look for jobs in the ¡§promised land¡¨. The people who come legally usually find jobs fairly quickly, and get on their way to starting a new way of life, and gradually move up and become...
