Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration has been around ever since the United States became a country. It’s a term used to describe the act of migrating from one’s home country into another country illegally, and without gaining citizenship. Today illegal immigration sits at the top of a growing list of
national concerns, and is something that needs to be dealt with in the near future. I believe that anyone coming into our country permanently should gain citizenship through a completely legal process, no matter how long or what the cost may be.
Illegal immigration causes many problems for our country, economically and socially. In terms of economics, this crime is very harmful to members of minorities, the poor, and even children. When an illegal alien comes into our country, many services are provided to them, most more so than the average U.S. citizen. The reason for these extra needs stems from the fact that they aren’t very well educated, speak little English, and don’t possess the basic skills needed to survive in the workforce. This lack of knowledge results in a massive drain of public funds, since mass amounts of money is going to the education of illegal immigrants. This money may come from taxes that citizens have to pay, or from programs such as Social Security or welfare. Aside from the monetary aspect, illegal immigrants also take away from the number of jobs available in a given area. In a way, these immigrants have an advantage over the average person because of the fact that they’ll work for pay that’s sometimes below minimum wage, whereas anyone else would complain. It might not seem fair that someone who entered this country illegally might have precedent over a U.S. citizen, but often times this is the way it ends up working out. The group of people most affected by this lack of jobs is that of the youth. Teenagers, most often those in high school, usually search for jobs at some point in their educational...
