A good lifestyle is what everybody wants, but what does it actually mean to have a good lifestyle? A good lifestyle is described as the freedom from disease, pain or defect. However, such descriptions only supposedly define the meaning of health. There may be many occasions when individuals are not necessarily ill or in pain, but may be overweight, stressed or emotionally unstable. Healthy living is a quality of life which involves active interaction and interdependence among the individual’s physical state, their mental and emotional reactions, and the social context in which the individual exists.
In order to lead a good lifestyle, it is essential that individuals constantly monitor their health. This suggests maintaining a healthy standard of living which involves eating a balanced diet each day, doing some form of exercise and getting sufficient rest or sleep. Eating a balanced diet require choosing foods in the right proportions from each of the food groups. If possible, we should eat regularly; five small meals a day, to digest the food properly and our diet shouldn't only be balanced but also varied. A balanced diet should include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, mineral salts and fibre, all in their correct proportions. Carbohydrates provide a source of energy, fats also supply a source of energy and contain fat soluble vitamins and proteins offer a source of materials for growth and repair of tissues in the body. Vitamins are required in very small amounts to keep the body healthy and mineral salts are essential for healthy teeth, bones and muscles. Fibre is vital to help the intestines function correctly and it is not digested. If at all possible, people should avoid eating chips, cookies, pies, sweets, stews or fatty meat, alcohol and coffee as a healthy diet is the cornerstone of our well-being.
