Hurricane Katrina was considered as one natural disaster. But in reality it was two disasters. The initial disaster was a natural disaster which ripped the coastlands of Louisiana and Mississippi to shreds and left New Orleans a wasteland. The second disaster was the lack of communication and response that took place between federal, regional, state, and local relief agencies and efforts after the hurricane. The two disasters combined have caused a lot of damages to a vast human population. The consequence of Katrina includes a record number of death tolls, injuries, refugees and expenses as well as the rebuilding of approximately 1,300,000 million people.…
A Hurricane is a storm with a violent wind where it forms from ranges of categories 1-5 through large areas of rainfall. Hurricanes can also turn into tornadoes depending on the category it is in. Hurricane Katrina (2005) is one in particular that has left the Nation in devastation where many will never forget. The Levee in New Orleans led to massive flooding which caused a catastrophic aftermath and is known as one of the five deadliest Hurricanes in the United States. All in all, Hurricane Katrina had over 1,833 deaths which resulted in an estimation of $108 billion in property damage.…
Natural Disasters have powerful forces , they affect the environment and the people because they destroy the areas where they hit .“The Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900 was the deadliest hurricane to ever hit the United States and caused between 8000 and 12000 deaths. The storm reached the Texas coast south of Galveston on September 8 as a Category 4 hurricane with a storm surge of 8 to 15 feet.” All Natural Disasters can be formed in different ways but one of the examples are that hurricanes can be formed by the warm and moist air…
It's easy to find similarities between the weather phenomenon, we call a hurricane and the one we call a tornado. Both cause most of their damage through high winds and rain, and the arrival of both can cause evacuations, emergency warnings and general chaos. But there are numerous differences between the two weather systems, from the elements that form them to the type of devastation they leave behind.…
Hurricanes and tornadoes are some of the most violent natural occurring disasters known to mankind. While there are many differences between the two, the stark similarities are as dramatic. Both are centered on gusting wind swirling around a center; however the diameters of the storms are quite different. While hurricanes can range from 100 to 300 miles wide, tornadoes usually have only a length of less than two miles. However, a tornado makes up for its small size with extremely high wind speeds, in excess of over 250 miles per hour. Hurricanes on the contrary have wind speeds from 74 to 160 miles per hour. To compare and to contrast hurricanes and tornadoes the main areas of interest are the creation of both disasters, and the destructive…

In 1903 W. E. B. DuBois has said that race was to be the most important issue of the 20th century. This paper examines how the 'race problem ' has unfolded in 20th century America, from the immigrations and United States imperialism to the Ku Klux Klan. The paper looks at what happened to help the issues with race why it took so long for America to pass the Civil Rights Act. Finally, the paper looks at the progress made in America in the latter part of the century.…
Hurricanes and tornadoes are both similar in many ways, but they are different in others. One way they are different is that Hurricanes are the most devastating storms on earth, they form over warm ocean waters by the equator. Also, the Wind speed of a tornado can get up to 157 miles per hour for it to be a category 5 with Hurricane Irma got up to 185Mph winds in under 24 hours. Finally, hurricanes are different than tornadoes because of the amount of damage they do. A Hurricane will destroy a large number of homes, trees will blow over and it will take months maybe years to fix all damage.…
Hurricanes and Tornadoes may look similar at first glance, but if you look deeper you may find a few differences. To begin with, Hurricanes and tornadoes form differently. For example, tornadoes are rapidly spinning columns of air that require rain and clouds. They are also a few hundred few across (Source 3). However, hurricanes need extreme winds and flooding rains. They also need warm tropical waters and need to be near the equator (Source 4). Hurricanes and tornadoes have more differences. On one hand, the wind speeds between the two are completely different. Even though, most tornadoes have winds reaching 100 miles an hour (Source 3). On the other hand, hurricanes can go up to 150 MPH (Source 4). Hurricanes and tornadoes can both cause thousands of dollars in damage. Although, 1,300 tornadoes hit the U.S. each year with an average cost of $500 million in damage (Source 3). On the contrary, in an average three-year period, roughly five hurricanes strike the U.S. with a $15 billion in damage (Source 4). Hurricanes and tornadoes both are very dangerous, so, warning…
Have you ever noticed how many deaths have occurred due to natural disasters? Well if you don’t know what a natural disaster is, it is a natural hazard to the environment (floods, tornados, hurricanes, volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis). All of these natural disasters can cause severe damage to the environment and many deaths. In this essay I am only going to talk about earthquakes and hurricanes.…
To begin, the average amount of tornados that affect the US in one year is 1300. However, according to source 4,"5 hurricanes make landfall in the US in a three year average." Furthermore, we can obviously see that more tornados make landfall in the US than hurricanes.…
A hurricane and tornado both form in warm, damp air blowing from opposite ends. They both cause flash floods, mudslides and they also cause deaths. The two contain an "eye" which is the center of the destruction. They are very violent storms and produce intense low pressures. This is hard to believe but both tornadoes and hurricanes rotate clockwise in the southern hemisphere and rotate counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere.…

Hurricanes are one of the most dangerous natural disasters because of their strong winds, massive rains (causing floods) and storm surges. Hurricane Katrina was one of the most deadly hurricanes in history and is still dreadful to even think about.…
August 29, 2005, a hurricane hit land in Louisiana. The next 6 days would be billions of dollars in damages to one of the worst hurricanes in history, Hurricane Katrina. Hurricanes are one of most powerful disasters created by nature. Hurricanes have been recorded of hitting the Gulf Coast since settlers came to the coast. These forces of nature have caused large amounts of destruction and loss of people due to the power each hurricane has.…
