A CAREER IN HUMAN RESOURCES
Introduction
Have you ever applied for a job and had to go through a series of test and interviews before you were chosen for a position? The person in charge of deciding whether you are fit for the position you are applying for is known as a Human Resource Manager. Selecting and interviewing are just two of the many tasks HR mangers are responsible for. They help maintain a constant supply of qualified workers to maximize the productivity of a company. HR managers are responsible for limiting job turnover, enhancing job morale, improving business results, minimizing financial risk, and helping to increase employee working conditions to keep workers satisfied. Human Resource Managers are necessary to have in every company and are especially important in larger companies.
Job Duties
The duties of an HR manager will vary widely depending on the company they are working for. The most common duties of an HR manager are as listed:
• Recruiting, Selecting, and Training
• Performance Evaluation
• Promotion, Company Benefits, and Compensation
• Employee and Labor Relations
• Record Keeping of all employees
An HR Manager must have a great knowledge of their company’s working environment in order to fulfill their duties. They must know what their company is looking for in an employee, and be able to avoid and resolve conflict between employees, and/or employees and the company. As a result, HR Managers may sometimes work under pressure.
Skills and Qualifications
The performance of an HR Manager can affect how well a company will grow; therefore there are a number of skills required as an HR Manager. They must have at least a bachelor’s degree in personnel administration, human resources, or labor relations.
