What is Human Resource Management?
Many different opinions exist about what exactly Human Resource Management, or HRM, is. All the HRM models and definitions originate from personal opinions. Dealing with people is never an exact science; rational organisational decision making in HRM is unpractical, and thus are often made from a more intuitive point.
However, the following can be said about HRM;
Essentially HRM is the resourcing and management of the employees in an organisation. At present employees are considered to be the most valuable assets in business as they contribute individually to the organisation’s success. It is only since the 80’s that managers understood that success was made thought its people.
With its design to function more successfully in today’s business culture where people are seen as individuals with individual needs, HRM is the modern answer to the more ‘traditional’ personnel management.
Strategic HRM and its main purpose.
Currently organisations emphasize on the strategic value of HRM. To achieve competitive advantage HR practises are used to find and create committed, skilled, flexible and motivated employees, they are after all the very heart of organisations and their achievements.
